چکیده

Arguments related to individual responsibility It's the uninsured's fault that they're uninsured • 8 out of 10 of the uninsured work or come from working families. They play by the rules, work hard just like the rest of Americans, and yet they can't get insurance from the employer because it's not offered, or they can't afford it if it is offered. Is that their fault? • Is it really anyone's fault that health insurance is so expensive that they can't afford it? The high costs of health care are due to influences beyond any one individual's control they are influenced by society-wide trends towards increased use of technology, high administrative costs of our healthcare system, and a strong profit motive in the health insurance industry that drives up the cost of premiums.

Sicker and poorer--the consequences of being uninsured: a review of the research on the relationship between health insurance, medical care use, health, work, and income.

Health services research conducted over the past 25 years makes a compelling case that having health insurance or using more medical care would improve the health of the uninsured. The literature's broad range of conditions, populations, and methods makes it difficult to derive a precise quantitative estimate of the effect of having health insurance on the uninsured's health. Some mortality stu...

The Most Important Design Guideline?

T he activity of " design " includes many things, but certainly one of the most important aspects is interface specification. Interfaces determine which aspects of a component are accessible and to whom; they thus determine encapsulation. Interfaces specify what functionality (data, properties , methods, and so forth) is available to clients. Interfaces reflect how a system is broken down into ...

No Health Insurance? It's Enough to Make You Sick - Scientific Research Linking the Lack of Health Coverage to Poor Health

In the past ten years, several hundred studies have been conducted to document the plight of uninsured Americans. The evidence from these studies contradicts the notion that a lack of insurance is merely an inconvenience as is often supposed by many Americans. These studies confirm that there are real consequences of being uninsured. The American College of Physicians-American Society of Intern...

Interrogations for Equality Seminar Session 3. Class & Economic Inequality

I like Glaser's "Class as a Normative Category". I'm interested to hear others' thoughts on the metrics of hierarchy, and if this is really an exhaustive list of what egalitarians should be trying to make (more) equal. Political theorizing often seems like disconnected conceptual alphabet soup, and I like the way Glaser attempts to give structure to a mess of really important, but often poorly ...

Short Circuit Calculation Methods

All electrical systems are susceptible to short circuits and the abnormal current levels they create. These currents can produce considerable thermal and mechanical stresses in electrical distribution equipment. Therefore, it's important to protect personnel and equipment by calculating short-circuit currents during system upgrade and design. Because these calculations are life-safety related, ...
